About Me | Sophia Grows
Hi, I’m Sophia
If you had told me years ago that a simple little garden would completely change my life, I probably would have smiled and laughed.
But here I am at 47, still finding joy in muddy hands, tomato vines, fresh herbs on my kitchen windowsill, and those quiet early mornings when the whole garden feels alive before the world wakes up.
I created Sophia Grows because gardening became more than just a hobby for me. It became comfort. Therapy. A way to slow down and reconnect with myself.
And honestly, I wanted a place where I could share that feeling with other people who love simple living, nature, and the little happiness that comes from growing something with your own two hands.
My Story
I didn’t grow up as some expert gardener.
I learned slowly. One plant at a time.
My love for home gardening really started in my thirties during a difficult season of life. Everything felt rushed back then. Work, responsibilities, stress, noise… I constantly felt exhausted.
One spring afternoon, I bought a few tiny herb plants from a local garden center. Basil. Mint. Rosemary.
Nothing fancy.
I planted them in old containers on my back porch and started taking care of them after work. Watering them became part of my routine. Then I started reading about soil, sunlight, vegetables, and beginner gardening.
Before I realized it, gardening had quietly become my favorite part of the day.
I still remember the first tomato I successfully grew in my little backyard garden. It probably sounds silly, but I felt ridiculously proud of that tomato.
Gardening taught me patience.
It taught me that growth takes time. That mistakes are normal. That not every season looks the same.
Some years my plants thrive beautifully. Other years the weather wins. I still lose plants sometimes. I still experiment. I still learn.
And I think that’s part of what makes gardening so beautiful.
Why I Started Sophia Grows
After years of learning through trial and error, friends and neighbors started asking me questions about gardening.
How do you grow herbs indoors?
Why are my tomatoes struggling?
What flowers survive the summer heat?
What are some easy gardening ideas for beginners?
I realized something important.
A lot of people want to garden, but many feel overwhelmed by complicated advice online. Sometimes gardening websites make everything sound harder than it really is.
I wanted to create a space that felt different.
Warm. Honest. Relaxed.
A place where everyday people could learn real-life gardening tips without feeling intimidated.
That’s how Sophia Grows was born.

My Gardening Philosophy
I believe gardening should bring peace, not pressure.
I’m not interested in perfect magazine gardens or impossible standards. I love gardens that feel lived in. A little wild. A little imperfect. Full of life.
To me, gardening is about creating small moments of joy.
Fresh basil for dinner.
Watching bees visit the flowers.
Drinking coffee outside while the morning sun hits the plants.
Those little moments matter.
And I truly believe that spending time in nature helps us reconnect with ourselves in ways we often forget.
